As part of The Times's team coverage of Hurricane Matthew, a Category 4 storm, I was assigned to cover the Jacksonville area, the most populated city in the storm's path. Here I spoke with Jacksonville Beach residents who chose not to evacuate prior to the hurricane's arrival.

My story for The Tampa Bay Times on a large fish kill resulting from a red tide event, leaving some of Florida's most beautiful beaches littered with dead marine life.

Here I was the lead reporter for The New York Times on the first hurricane to strike Florida in 11 years, with tremendous support from the paper's Miami bureau chief, Lizette Alvarez.

In this story, I was embedded with a unit from the U.S. Army's 173rd Airborne Brigade during Operation Rock Avalanche in Kunar Province's Korengal Valley and was able to make it back to a nearby field hospital to take photos of a baby, child and two women -- all Afghan civilians -- who were among the injured in the offensive, which also resulted in the death of one American soldier and two others wounded on another unit in the same operation.

My coverage for Vice News of a small Pentacostal church that practiced snake handing in the East Tennessee hills under the leadership of a maniacal, 22-year-old pastor who was running afoul of law enforcement and state wildlife officials, but dismissed them entirely.
